1965 mustang

I have a 65 fastback, 289 auto. My speedo wobbles up and down and makes a sound at lower speeds, above 60 it smooths out. Do I need to lubricate the cable? If so, with what lubricant and how? Or do I need to replace cable.

Also check the gear and the socketwhere the cable goes into the trans. Sometimes these wear out and when they start to go, do things similar to what you said.
