Default Improving 0-60

I have a stock 99 GT 5-sp, and ever since i got my car, i have never been real comfortable running my car hard to 6000 RPM's and shifting just before the redline,
but i was hoping to get some feedback on making my car faster to somewhat reasonable speeds on the street. i hear stories about 'shutting down' around 120, and i'm glad that i dont like to drive 'too' fast
Anyways, im more interested in 0-60 times, and the acceleration throwing me back against my seat rahter than quarter mile times and top speed.
What kind of imput does anyone have on helping me out here?

Right now i have the following two for sure this summer

1. O/R H-pipe probably bbk...
2. Borla Stinger cat-back those together should put me just under 1000 dollars,

then i was drawn to gears..
what could i expect from 3.73's as far as performance, and ive also heard people talking about 'relearning' to drive their car?

whats the deal with this? and how much would i look at price wise in purchasing, installation, and recalibrating my speedo?

sorry its such a long post, thanks

$1,000 bucks for a Cat-back and mid-pipe...god damn, I hope you are getting 30+ HP from those mods.

Catless x-pipe should be no more than 250 and cat-back should be no more than 400...

If you shopped right, you could buy a full exhaust for less than $1,000 bucks. I bet you are overpaying for those Borla's.

If all you're worried about is 0 - 60 go with 4.10s... from what I've read you can purchase/install them for about 300 bucks... I believe people say they have to relearn to drive because they end up with more traction problems and the shift points are different... obviously they're still shifting about the same RPMs... but the time it takes to get to those RPMs and where they are on the track is different then they are used to.

the relearning to drive is because you get in your power band alot quicker. it's much more sensative. before i could give it a little gas and creap up to about 15mph or so and only be at about 2000rpm or so. now when i give it that same bit of gas, it jumps up quicker and it's at about 2500+rpm at the same. you just have to get a new feel for when to shift. you'll be shifting alot sooner. i'm in 5th gear by 45mph now just driving normally.

hmm, how much more abuse can i expect to give my car learning to drive with 4.10's compared to something just a bit lower?

And you mentioned that i am probably overpaying for the Borlas.
ive found catless h pipes for around 230-250, and everywhere ive looked, borlas stingers are gonna run be about 600-650....

is there somewhere you would recommed looking to find them for about 400 like somebody said?

or is everyone going to recommend me to ebay?
thanks

What kind of o/r h pipe are you looking at getting? My MAC was 140 at a local mustang dealer.

well, i was originally looking for a BBK o/r H
but its not like im set on that idea

i want an offroad H pipe that will give me the low muscle car tone that most people seem to be looking for. NOTHING raspy is my goal here.

if youve got any other suggestions, i'll definately take them into consideration.

My h pipe and flows has a great low muscle car sound and isn't raspy at all. If you're looking to save some money go with the MAC.

new rear gears are the best way to improve the 0-60 times on the street and they don't cost all that much installed if you shop around for them a bit and also for a shop to install them. you should be able to get them installed for under $500 total which includes reprogrammng the speedometer too.
