Default Cranking problem

I just bought a brand new battery, I had the starter checked. I can pop start the car and it will run fine. But if I try to start the car with the key it will EXTREMELY slowly turn the motor about a quarter of a turn, and than it will just stop and I will get a hum. What else does that sound like it could be? I was wondering about flywheel, or maybe clutch. Any ideas?

Check the grounds that ground the motor to the frame. And the Negative wirecoming off of your battery. Make sure there is no corrosion on either end. Also the negative for the starter motor...

I've only got one wire from the starter and it's a positive. The grounds all looked fine

Get some emery cloth and steelwool.
Remove each wire end (one at a time)
and polish the terminal and the stud till it
shines.

Now reconnect each wire and make sure it is tight.

This includes the battery teminals, solenoid,
every ground wire.

This is your best shot of making sure
that the wiring is not the cause.

Take a look at your battery cable itself, sometimes there is corrosion on the inside of the cable. Even with clean terminals it will still cause problems. Make sure the battery is charged, and you have good clean connections and next I would check the starter for issues.

I cleaned the terminals. Wires look good inside. I pulled the starter and had it tested ,they said it's fine. I had the alternator tested and they said that was only putting out 3 volts. I know that won't stop me from starting but just checked it anyway. I checked the solonoid on the fender and that was getting power. When the car is cold I can get it to crank very slowly and it will start, but if I leave it run for about ten minutes, shut it off and try to restart it... Nothing...

Thats becuase your car is running off of battery power instead of the alternator. FIX IT! problem solved.

A mini starter was my next suggestion. But congrats on fixing it!
