I grenaded a rear end myself onetime, but I was going about 40mph and all of a sudden the back end locked up and started bouncing all over the road. Quite an experience! But your best be is to open it up and see whats broken, and then replace everything while you're in there, bearing, seals etc

If fluid is coming out of the axle tube you have a problem. I delt with 9" rears when I had my bronco. You have to take the third member out and check the fluid. If there is metal shavings in there you have a major problem and all the seals should be redone in the axle. Until you crack it open I can't really help more with out knowing what exactly went wrong.

+1. If there is fluid leaking, then you have a seal problem anyway. If it is grinding, 90% chance you have a bearing out. Which one? Who knows. Pull it apart and find out. No other way. Make sure you look over every tooth on the ring and pinion to make sure the bearing didn't take out those two.

A bearing could cause that much damage? I figured if it was a bearing it would still move...it might make more noise but i thought it would still move...?

Im going out to rip it apart soon...but i figured i should clean all of the mud off first so im not droppin s**t into the housing...
