I cant believe no one has told u the truth on this forum so I will tell you. You have to pay to play. You can get mods for cheap but it not going to be enough horsepower to feel. Gears will help you feel more power but that is the same that you had anyway. Suggestion, save up, get you some mods that you can feel good about.

Don't know much about the free stuff, but weight reduction always works. Remove your spare tire jack and anything else you don't really need. Of course this may be a problem if you ever get a flat tire.
