Why does my mustang not have spark plug wires?
Upon buying my mustang in 12/03, a 2000 GT, I couldn't help but stare under the hood. One thing i noticed is that there are no spark plug wire? WTF!!! Obviously there are, but not in the traditional setting. Also i noticed that there was a label that said timing and idle are set, and can not be adjusted, WTF? Is there no no hope to SC? I inquired with my mechanic, who is also a mustang junkie and he said the wires are pretty expensive to replace, and they will go with time and miles. Is it possible to fix them myself with a 251 pc. craftsman tool set? Once they go of course
That's Ford for you.

It's called coil on plug. It will start to be the norm in cars. Get use to it. Coil on plug set-ups typically don't go until there are a lot of miles on them.
Yes you can change them with common hand tools and they are starting to make aftermarket coil on plug set-ups for the mustangs for around 300bucks.
Timing is adjustable with a hand helds tuner (Diablo or SCT) or you can pick up a Steeda timing adjuster (give a couple more degrees advance over the hand helds)
SC, turbo, Nitrous all will work with a coil on plug system.
They will all require tuning and not in the traditonal sense that you may be used too. Dyno and a computer to tune instead of the SOTP and turning of the distributor cap and changing of needles.
Wires are cheap, coil on plug isn't. But you are not going to get the ingniton troubles that wires can give.

Steeda Timing Adjuster
Ford Coil on Plug Connector Kits
There is plenty of hope to SC... And plenty of SCs to choose from.
