Default Overheating

I am sure this is not a new request for information with regards to overheating problems, but here goes. I own a 1965 fully restored fastback cobra restomod that overheats badly. I recently invested $3,000 in the engine mostly because of damage caused by the overheating problem. Installed were high performance values and major work beyond that. Car runs great but is still overheating. I cannot drive the car more than a mile without the temp gauge reading 240. The car is backfiring as well, so we changed the timing, but no improvement. This ride runs hot hot hot. I have headers on the car and they get extremely hot having melted my a/c hose. My mechanic is suggesting maybe a bigger radiator. I was thinking maybe an electric water pump as well. I just want to be able to drive my awesome car without it overheating. All suggestions and your expertise are very welcome. Thank You.

Default RE: Overheating

please specify more details about your engine (except how much you spent )
like:
what engine?? original? rebuild ? new?
what is the timing? (initial and total)
what water pump?
what radiator? this models had a tiny radiator...
what fan? electric ? mechanical?
do you have your Fan Shroud??
If your fan is mechanical, is it in the rightdistance from the radiator?
what carburetor do you have? some time running lean in the air/fuel ratio can cause over heating...
when exactlydose it over heating? all the time? only in traffic ?at 60 mph?
All of the above can cause an over heating problem, add the fact that this models has a very small radiator ( compared tothe radiator in67 mustangs and up...) and you can understand that every little thing can effect your engine temp fast...
with more details we will be able to help you better...

Default RE: Overheating

Yea either your water pump is not pushing enough fluid, or your thermostat is stuck, or your fan shroud isn't properly fitted around your fan.
