Should I rebuild?
That is the question right now because the recent offers on my mustang have been a bit low.
Overall, the cost for parts and block work would be around $400. The current engine is strong, but because the speedo broke, nobody is interested. Everything else is good.
My thoughts are that I would do all of the assembling myself. The only tool I need is a ring compressor. I really don't car about the time I invest because I have wanted to do something like this for so long.
What are your thoughts?
NADA said that the low value was around 2750, and that would apply if the thing had issues. Realistically, it belongs in the middle of the price range. Unfortuneately, most people are offering around 2k for it. I just wouldn't sell it for that little; its too important and valuable to me.
I figured that a rebuild engine with the brand new tranny (only 2 miles on it) would bring in around 3500. If I went to the extent of painting it and perfecting the exterioir, it would be worth more. If I did paint it, I'd paint some flames on it too.
Once again, the time isn't a "big" issue to me, just money.

There are so many fox body mustangs out there, so it is hard to get decent money for them. If the engine has no problems I wouldn't rebuild it. A rebuilt engine doesn't usually add much to the value of a car.
Unless you are willing to sit on it for a long time or if it's heavily modified (extremely modified) people will not pay more for a car because it was newer parts. I wouldn't pay $3500 for a $2500 car with a rebuilt stock motor.....
The biggest issue has been the broken speedo cable.
The odometer says132k, and the absolute max, greatly exaggerated mileage difference is about 5k miles. I went about 2 months with it broken. I drove about 2 miles one way to work and then 18 miles one way to school. And then some.
So 40 (miles) x 5 (days/week) x 8 weeks = 1600
and then some = 1600 x 50% = 2400.
So I am really overcalculating the mileage difference, but it is better over than under IMO (i'd rather be honest).
BTW- Summer is a good time, of coarse
