I just got a used roller motor and the cycl walls still have very defined cross-hatching on them, how quickly does cross hatching usually dissappear?

How many miles on the rebuild? The guy musta been using synthetic oil in it

 

Takes a long time for it to disappear. My engine at 63k had some left and I think someone mentioned theirs still had some at 100k miles.

 

I talked to an engine builder and he said that if done right it really shouldn't dissappear.

 

With synthetic lubricants, the hatches won't disappear very quickly. With conventionals, I've seen 'em disappear within 30k miles.

It has nothing to do with the engine builder, just the lubrication. With enough time, the hatches will disappear with any form of lubrication. It's just a natural wear process of the engine.

 

Mine had 70k on it and still had a good pattern.
