he also has 3.73's though. a shift kit will increase the speed at which the trans shifts. the shifts will also be firmer too. when my aod shifts, it slams the gear and jerks the car forward. im still running the stock rear gears and dont notice the tires chirp to much

A shift kit make you cars shifts firmer by raising hydralic line pressure ans flow in your tranny

I have a shift kit installed in my 02 GT, it is an aode. You will feel all shifts and downshifts a lot harder and firmer. Chirps will be stronger. One thing that I find a little anoying is the clanky downshifts at 40mph. Ford aode's are natually clanky when downshifting. The shift kit will bring this out and it will sound as if something is wrong, but it is not. You will have to get used to it. But as far as preformance, it will give you that.

Janine, did you modify your tranny at all prior to the shift kit? How does the AODE hold up for you? ( I have an '03 GT AODE...just interested)

Yes. I had a 10" 2600 rpm stall torque converter, wide ratio plantary gear set, valve body modification , shift kit and standard freshen up done all at the same time. The AODE holds up well under all power loads. My only grip is it doesn't downshift into passing gear all the time. The transmission guys said "we can tell it how to shift, but we can't tell it when to shift." That is it.

That sux. What was the estimated cost of all your tranny work? (If that is something you don't want to disclose...I understand.)

Thanks,
Ceyko

$2300. That included a cooler and 3 year warranty. This was done at Fred Brown Performance transmissions in Bayshore New York. They are one of the best in the NYC/Long Island area.
