I would say get a set of 3.73's. You have the T45 tranny so 3.73's for you is like 4.10's for my Tremac 3650.
Exactly what I was gonna say. Get a set of 3.73s. You should be able to get em installed and one of those black box calibrators for 500 total (gears+install+cal).

Don't get 4.10s in a 2000, I am running the exact same RPM at 70 w/ 3.73s as JD is with 4.10s. (trans are different).

Edit: I see we forgot to ask you what transmission you have, auto or manual. If you have an auto I think everyone says 4.10s for it.

I dont think there is a speedo gear that corrects it but what I would do if possible... which im not sure if it is or not is to take the needle off and have someone cruise next to you at like 30 mph and place the needle back on but on the 30 mph mark. Like I said... im not positive it will work and if it does then it probably wont go all the way down to 0 mph when you stop. Just a thought.
this will not work JD, all it does is move the reading off by 30 mph but does nothing to change the relationship between the trans output shaft speed and the speedo itself.

gears!!!! youll have to shop around for install price.
gears are your best bet and get them installed by a shop
Why is everyone saying to get gears installed by a shop. Are they really that hard to install yourself? I always thought it was somethin anyone could do in their garage...

you're welcome to try. you have a better chance of fvcking it up than a garage does. i took mine to a shop that works on just mustangs. so i know i got somebody doing it that knew what they were doing.

Im just wonderin exactly what is involved, and what part of it is something that needs to be done by a shop. Is there some sort of special tools or equpiment that the average joe might not have? Or what is it exactly that someone is not capable of doing at home?

setting up the rear gears is a precision operation and really requires some experienced person to be doing it. you also need a bearing press to install the bearings on the new pinion shaft and a magnetic based dial indicator to properly measure and set the backlash on the gears. there is also a pinion depth setting tool which a shop would have that most home mechanics don't have that is used to determine what shim thickness is needed on the pinion shaft bearings to properly align the teeth on the pinion with those on the ring gear. you also need an inch-lb torque wrench and a foot-lb torque wrench and an impact wrench to remove the big nut holding the pinon shaft in place. you also need an install kit which comes with new pinion and differential bearings and the crush collar and shims needed to accurately set up the gears so they mesh correctly and don't make a bunch of noise and wear out prematurely if installed incorrectly. I would not recommend you attempt to install new gears unless you have helped someone do it at least once before or you could be about to waste the money you will spend on the gears with a bad install.
