are radar detector worth it?

RE: are radar detector worth it?
They can help, sometimes. Lasers are becoming more popular, and are a narrow beam and take a fraction of a second to measure your speed. Even a laster detector built into a radar detector, which some have, wouldn't help. By the time it goes off it's already too late. And cops are smarter about how they position a vehicle to take advantage of radar. If you go under an overpass and a cop is sitting on the onramp, 9/10 times the radar detector won't pick up the radar because the concrete and earth blocks the waves if they're smart about where they point it. The best thing to avoid tickets, is just don't speed, in actually you won't get where you're going more than a couple minutes quicker anyway on a 30 minute trip. It's not worth a ticket or a collision

Take it from someone who works at a huge electronics store that sells radar detectors. Check out http://bestbuy.com/ for them, hehe. Go with the Escort, in my opinion you get what you pay for so go with the best. They DO NOT work good again laser guns because you basically won't know until you're finally shot and by the time it goes off they will always know how fast you were going. No Cobra in my opinion, go with Escort. TRUST ME. Go to your local Best Buy store and check them out. I'm going with Escort for my cars, I have two Mustangs.

ive got an escort and i love it. saved my *** plenty of times...but ive still gotten tickets with it on. ive been hit with a laser once and ticketed for a 55 in a 30, and ive run across cops sitting waiting for someone who looks like they are speeding, flick the gun on and hit me before i could slow down. either way its better than nothing, but you cant get complacant and think you can speed all the time and get away with it.
as said lasers are becomming more widely used and radar detectors do JACK **** against them. laser shoots out a beam maybe the size of a quarter. the only way your detector is going to catch it is if the beam comes in contact with your detector (the gun is pointed DIRECTLY at your detector in other words). and the cops not gonna be lasering your windshield they aim for the front of the car. however in this day and age there are still plenty of cops using the old k, x, and ka bands.

Yep they work but not always guaranteed, as mentioned above.
Laser radar detection from what I've heard,, some units "try" to detect the laser as it's hitting the car in front of you, if the cops laser happens to hit the windshield area then your laser detector might sense the prism effect off the glass. It's your only hope lol
If detectors are illegal in your area, watch out! Get caught with it & they will give you a ticket for having it along with the speeding ticket. AND they can take your expensive detector toy away from you [:@]

Nothing compares to the old calibrated eye and knowing where the cops like to hide.
