Default Is it a 7.5 or 8.8 rearend?

I've got a 1987 mustang that was a 2.3 andis now a5.0 How can I tell if the rearendis the stock 7.5 or if it'sbeen switched to a8.8? They both look the same to me. Can I tell if I measure the rearend cover?

The 7.5 rear cover is round, the 8.8 is squared off. Do a search and you'll find pics.

8.8's are cheap, anything up to '98 will work. The 7.5 will be fine if you dont run sticky tires.
