Default engine swap advice

I own a new 07 GT. I have installed the Ford Racing Performance package and now I am thinking of replacing the stock motor with the SVT Cobra. What else will I have to change with this modification. The engine does not come with the PCM or wireing, can I use the existing hardware? Will I have to chanfe the rear end and/or transmission. Any advice is welcomed.

may i ask why your wanting to do the swap? it would give you alot more power for a hell of alot cheaper to just blow your 3v. unless you get a forged 4v you really wont see much benefit to going with a 4v for te price(youll get 1k more rpm before redlining thats about it). those gt's arent slow either i got a buddy with a 98 cobra who was running about 8.8-8.9 in the 8th mile he saidbefore his car crapped out on him. hes got full exhaust and an intake and a nitrous tune (retarded timing so he lost about 5hp off that) and thats off his bottle. my supervisors 05gt with an intake and axle backs ran an 8.8 in the 8th(both street tires btw). not sure how it pans out in a full quarter but your talking alot of money for maybe a muniscale gain (unless your going for an already forged 4v and your gonna run some serious boost in it)

Thanks for the heads up. My thought process was to replace the current engine after 100k. I drive a lot of miles every day and it will only take 2 1/2 years at most. I was going to but the engine now so that I could avoid shortages or price increases.

Do you mean to tell me that my stock GT with the racing package at 325 hp is going to be as fast as a 500hp cobra?

The most powerful Cobra was rated at 390hp in 03/04. The Shelby GT500 is around 500hp.

umm a stock non blown 4v is no where near 500hp, the 03/04 cobras with a blower only put out 390hp. they were rated at i think 320hp N/A on the 4v. and the 500hp shelby gt500 has a 5.4l engine not a 4.6 4v

gotcha, but if your going to wait 2 1/2 years for this swap i would not buy the motor now. unless your going to build it its going to sit in your garage un-used for 2 1/2 years. the seals and gaskets will go bad, parts will get all nice and gunky, etc... so to keep it your going to have to disassemble it, clean everything off, and let it sit. then when its time to swap rebuild the motor then stick it in. and thatsyears down the road you dont even know if your car is going to be around that long.

Okay that makes sense... Let me be more specific about the engine I was looking at : SUPERCHARGED 5.4L SVT MUSTANG COBRA ENGINE[*]500 hp supercharged 5.4L DOHC engine[*]Original equipment in the 2008 SVT Mustang[*]500 hp @ 6000 RPM, 480 lb-ft of torque @ 4500 RPM[*]Fully dressed including accessories and supercharger[*]Does not include vehicle wiring and PCM[*]Calibration code 8S-253-AA[*]The most powerful Mustang production engine ever![*]Perfect for your high-end project

So if this is two years down the road and the change has come what will I need to do?
