Do larger than front rear tires hinder handling?

Do larger than front rear tires hinder handling?
I know alot of people like using 315's in the rear and like 275-295's in the front, but doesn't this combination work against having a neutral handling car? wouldn't the same size tire all around work better say 275's all around???

it would affect your over/understeer ratio but it wouldnt negatively affect anything so long as the tires size you go with is sized appropriately with your rim. straightline traction would get better pretty much no matter what.

Bossman, your right in your assumption.... if handling is what you want, than "neutral" is the right way... even sized tires are the only way to avoid a potential nightmare in understeer/oversteer syndromes.
I agreee for looks, bigger in back looks bad-a$$... but if I wanted looks I would have bought a __________ (you guys know I can't fill that in without starting a war).... let's stick to boss's question.
I am definitely into an all-around performance/handling car.. can't stick to just straightline. I'm building mine up for Infineon Raceway this fall (Sears Point).

If you want maximum handling, the type of rubber you use will dictate handling more than size. -But, as far as size goes, having a narrower front tire and a wider back tire will maximize your nibleness in corner entrances. -And mustangs need this help, as a general rule. After passing an apex in a corner, it doesn't matter as much. But, for maximum overall handling, you will do better with a narrower front tire width than the rear. This will also help your straight line performance, as narrower tires cause less drag in front. The only benefit of doing the same size all the way around is you can rotate the fronts to the rear, and visa versa.
