I am an Assistant manager @ O'Reilly Auto Parts, I cant speak for all brands, but I have used various products and Ive had the best results with Lucas. BG products are good, just a little more expensive, I guess it just depends on what you expect the additive to do.

i realy dont like oil aditives, oils have all kinds of detergents in them already, as far as fuel additives, i use sea foam, i have always seen good results using it, i both flood the engin with with and let it sit then start it back up to clear out any carbon biuld up. and i also put it in my fuel tank 1 full tank before i change the oil

Damn, so now we have BG and sea foam, decisions decisions!

Oh, and I think Amsoil is a brand of synthetic motor oil, not an additive.

btw whenever i use the sea foam even for cleaning the carbon i always do it right before an oil change, i dont want any of it to get threw the rings and into the oil, they say its safe to put in the oil its slef, but your oil is the most critical thing as far as keeping your motor in tip top shape and i think its the best in the form in wich it comes out of the bottle, no need in ****ing with it

AMS Oil makes a bunch of products other than synthetic oil, including a flushing agent they recommend before switching over to AMS OIl on an older motor...
