Weird Noise. HELP!
OK I PUT ON MY SLP LOUDMOUTH AXELBACK 9 DAYS AGO. AFTER ABOUT 4 DAYS OF DRIVING THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS (LOUDMOUTHS SOUND GREAT BY THE WAY) I STARTED TO HEAR A FUNNY NOISE. NOISE IS MOSTLY PRESENT AT NIGHT AND ONLY WHEN IM TAKING OFF FROM A STOP OR BOGGING THE ENGINE IN SAY A GEAR TO HIGH. I ALSO SHOULD NOTE THAT THE NOISE IS NOT ALWAYS THERE. LIKE I SAID ITS MOSTLY AT NIGHT AND SEEMS TO COME IN WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN AND FULLYWARMED UP? IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS LOOSE. MAKING A RATTLING SOUND. The rattle is rpm specific. It comes in between 1000 - 1500 rpm's. NOTE I HAVE BEEN UNDER THE CAR 3 TIMES MAKING SURE THE EXHAUST I RECENTLY INSTALLED WAS ALL TIGHT. DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? IM THINKING ABOUT TAKING IT TO THE DEALER AND HAVING THEM LOOK AT IT .

RE: Weird Noise. HELP!
check to see if hte exhaust is taping against somehting. A few years ago I put on a cat back exhaust and the tail pipes were close to the gas tank tapin away at it. It wasnt always there as well. I would make sure yur exhaust is at least a half inch away from anything(frame or gas tank).

RE: Weird Noise. HELP!
Usually, you find the exhaust rattling against the lower control arms.
What happens is you install the exhaust with the rear hanging down. When you drop the car back onto it's wheels, you load the suspension.
My buddy's 99 GT does the same thing, but I'm too lazy to slide under it and fix it.
All you need to do is jack the car up and put jack stands under the axle tubes. Lower the car onto the jackstands, and look at the exhaust. You'll see where it's a little too close.
Simply loosen the bolts that hold the back section together, and move the pipes as necessary.
Good luck,
Alan
