Default Warranty Question

This may be a stupid question, but I just bought a 2005 v6 coupe with 18k on it. The dealer told me it was no longer under factory warranty due to the "in service" date. However, after further inspecting the car, I saw the manufatured date as 07/05. Would't that mean there is NO WAY the in service date could be before that date? Therefore the warranty would have to be good until at least 07/08? Or am I just ignorant?

Thanks!

My understanding is that the warranty is supposed to begin at the date of purchase. So you should try to find out when the original owner purchased it. For example, my wife just bought a brand new '07 Saab on January 1, 2008. Well, the warranty (5 years) is good until January 1, 2013, even though the car is an '07.

that is my understanding as well, hence the "in service" date. But how could it have been put in service before it was built?????

Yeah, I agree. I would look for a customer service number for Ford in your manual, or call another dealer. I think they are jacking you around.

Once the car is 'purchased', that is the 'in service' date.

Your car should be under warranty. A quick way to tell would be to go to Ford's Extended Service Plan website and enter your vin number, if any ESP plans are offered, you are still under warranty.

Thanks for the info guys, the dealership was "mistaken" LOL, I had to correct them, it is under warranty until 1/28/2009.

***Forgot to mention that because they told me it was no longer under warranty, I talked them down another $1000 on the car. I guess the joke is on them, LOL.
