97 GT 5 speed hard getting into gears
Okay all my fellow stang buddies someone please help me out!!..
I have a 97 mustang gt. Its a 5 speed which is my first one ever and everything has been going good untill last night i notice when i went to downshift shifiting into the gear seemed really hard. I had my clutch pressed al the way in and it still was having problems I tryed getting into first it didnt work so i tryed 2nd it didnt work eaither. I came to a stop and waited a secound and was able to finally stick it in first but it was still really stiff. I let the car sit at my buddys and I took it home later and everything seemed fine. Its been doing good today but when I was out earlier i was able to tell that shifitng it eaither up or down was becoming harder to do?..what would cause this problem and what kind of price range am i looking at to fix it?. someone i kno said maybe it was the synchronizers??.. or would it maybe be my clutch not ingaging all the way? because ever since ive had the car the clutch would have to be almost al the way to the floor to ingage and ever since this has happend it has to go practley to the floor.?..please anyinformation would help.Remember it only does it every now and then-Jeffrey

Your clutch cable needs to be replaced or adjusted.Check under the car and see if you have an adjustable cable, if so, just loosen the cable a few turns and you should be good to go.
My mother in laws 91 GT had the same happen on a seven hour drive to my house. Same problem, just adjusted as above and the car never had problems again.

If you just need to adjust the clutch it can be done inside of the car for a 97. I believe you just put your foot under the clutch and lift it, but don't quote me on that (I have an automatic).

That is the way it is in my 98 V6. It says in the owner's manual just put your foot under the clutch pedal and lift it. I did and I heard a loud pop! lol I don't know if that is good or not. lol

Yea, what you do is put your foot under the clutch pedal and pull the pedal up. Then push the pedal all the way to the floor. Repeat pulling the pedal up and pushing down a few times. If its like my 95 GT you'll hear it click when it adjusts.
