It is somethiong that can be done yourself. You have a 10" clutch in ther if it has never been changed. I would strongly consider going to 10.5" because of the price. The 10.5" aftermarket parts are mre available than the 10 and the price is better. you will need to replace the Clutch Kit and Flywheel.

the labour part isnt what concerns me. I do most of the work on my car but never done a clutch. wasnt sure if I needed specialty tools or not. Any recomendations on clutch type?

It's a lot of labor but not difficult. Not sure about your year but on my 94 I have to remove the H-pipe and then everything is a piece of cake. It's like a 3 to 4 hour job.

do it yourself theres not much to it i did a t-5 swap myself with little experience and now i'm an expert.j/k but really no special tools are required except a clutch alignment tool and i just used a broom handle it's the same dang thing. nitros right upgrade to 10.5 and get a new flywheel also i would get a steeda quadrant and adjustable clutch cable the stock ones are plastic and the teeth wear and this could harm your new clutch.

For somebody not experience...I would say about a 9 to 14 hour job. The dealer's mechanics take 7 hours...I don't think anybody in their 'back yard' could do it in less than 5. It took me over 10 hours...never had done it before. Not hard, just time consuming. We would be glad to answer any questions you'll have during the change. Good luck!

i just replaced the clutch in my 2000 gt last week.... PITA!!! but it CAN be done yourself with only jackstands and a couple jacks. Im sure '83s are a lot different, but i had to remove the mid pipes and starter.
