Default 1994 Cobra 5.0 conversion into my 1995 Mustang V6, Need advice and directions

Heya everyone, Looking at the cost and headaches of a 351W swap into my mustang I have decided to go with either a 94/95 Cobra 5.0 or a 03/04 Mach1 4.6 DOHC. This post is asking for help with the 94 Cobra Conversion.

Ok in this one I have found a fairly cheap 94' Cobra engine with 7000 origianl miles on it. The engine is going to run me about $2500 dollars and that comes with only the wiring harness and ECU for the car.

Basicly what I need to know is what do I have to do to make this work, I already have an upgraded T5 tranny from a GT in the car and should work. I know about the rear end upgrade too.

I really dont know what else I will have to do with the car to make the swap work, I know that the stock K-Frame is the same as the Cobra, but just different mounts, but as for my suspension I dont know if I will sag really low once I put the larger heavier engine in, what do I need to upgrade there?

A full list of instructions and advice is very much appriciated.

Thanks again guys and gals.

Sincerely Eric.

I done a coupple 4 to 8 swaps in the foxes

The springs are fine they dont need to be changed

the 7.5 will live if the combo ant to hot

I dont know bout the drive shaft for sn94/95 but in the fox V8+T-5 + 7.5 or 8.8 rear = 45 1/2" drive shaft

I would rethink the windsor no headache or more cost than 302 . you got to buy evrything aney way .think about the 351 some more .

B/W
the windsor will pass the smog test if your state will alow a V8 swap in a 6 cyl car

i dont know, it just seems like so much trouble, sure I already have a 97 Roller block (bare) but it costs alot.

$1300 for the full rebuilt kit from "The Mustang Depot" (All 4340 steel H-Beam rods and 4340 steel hawkings crank, complete bottom end)
$300 for a good roller cam and roller lifters
$100 for high flow oil pump
$100 for Fox oil pan
$100 for ARP-L19 top end bolt kit
$1000 for my aluminum Cleveland 4V aussie (Windsor mod) heads (bare)
$200 for the Clevor 4V intake
$300 for the 870 street avenger
$50 for the stud kit
$250 for the harlend sharp roller rockers w/girdles
$50 for the valve covers
$100 for the billett flywheel
$100 for an Accel distributor
$50 bux for decent 8.5mm plug wires
$50 waterpump
$500 for engine prep, line hone, ballance and blueprint (inhouse deal w/freeze plugs and other goodies)
$150 engine wiring harness and ECU
$500 for a piggy back system

Thats $5200 bux just right there and thats with some prices missing and at ebay and personal friend prices, I mean I would love to do the windsor build but there is just too much money involved for me to do it right now. I thought about it a really long hard time but I just cant afford it. I know it would make about 500 easy horse (More like 799@8000rpms on desktop dyno) but an easy realistic 500 even though I got every single detail and cam math and head flow info bit correct.

I dont see myself spending more then $3500 total on the cobra conversion (and thats with lotsa extras) about $2000 is all im willing to do for the engine, $2500 if he throws in the headers and a few other things, then after that I will buy a TKO600, alum driveshaft and QA1 w/suspension drop of 1.5" and call it good. If I go with the Mach1 conversion then I am looking at about $4500.

Anyways i need sleep, talk to you guys in the morn.

are you seriously going to spend 2500 on a cast pistoned 302 block w/ $300 heads ($400 if you count the rockers) and a $250 intake?

Its an original 94' Cobra motor with Crane Roller rockers and only 7000 miles on the engine its entire life. Its a direct drop in and I dont have to screw with much. But like I told you guys I dont really want to spend $2500 on this motor, 2000 is pushing it, I would rather pay $1500, but thats what the man and I discussed.

If anything I could pull the bottom end and stick a 347 forged kit in it, I have seen them from TMD for about 1000. As for the heads those can be replaced later, I have a set of Cleveland 4V heads in mind that are aftermarket Aluminum and modded to fit directly to Windsor blocks. So I will have a BOSS302 stroker. There is also a Clevor DMPFI intake that I will be using when I change over. Then eventually I will build my 351 (427) stroker and just changed the heads and intake over. Its just like stepping stones ya know?

This motor is just to get me going for now so I can keep my job and stop borrowing rides from April. It has awesome low miles on it and is a virgin block for me to do whatever I want to it later on.
