i have a 96 v6 and was wondering i have alot of knowledge about cars engines, tranny, suspension, but have never opened up a rear end do you think i should and try and put new gears in my self becuase they way i learned how to work on cars was being to cheap to pay someone lol and dont trust people
Unless you are familiar with how to degree the gears and have the tools to do it, I would take it to someone. If you don't get it right they will whine and wear a lot faster.
+1, but dont forget u will prolly want a dyno or else ur odometer will be all messed up...dyno here is like 500 or get a handheld or chip which will be cheaper
Unless you got access to a press, micrometer, dial indicator, and depth indicator i would not bother, i borrowed all that and it still took me forever my first time doing it.

you dont need a tune after a gear install. you will need the programmer to adjust the odometer or the plastic gear to be installed in the older cars and thats cheaper than the programmer without a doubt
I think you should go ahead and do it if you it isnt your DD. I find itto be "fun"working onmy car. my cars been up a while but only because i dont have all the tools. As long as you have a torque wrench, Impact, micrometer, dial indicator and some of the poop paint your good to go id say.
