Default P0455 Code :( Help mah!!!

Welp.. Last week the Check Engine light came on in the 2000 GT.. Pulled the code and it was P0455. EVAP System Leak.

Most common cuase is a defective gas cap.. so I went to autozone, got a new cap.. and reset the code.

Welp.. came back on yesterday.

Here is my delima.. I don't think Emmissons is covered in my extended warranty.. so instead of paying the dealership 80 bucks to diagnos a problem that I already know most of.. I would rather try to trouble shoot a little bit myself.

the 3 other cuases listed from my searches are:

EVAP Canister or hose is Cracked or not Connected.

Purge or Vent Solenoid is Defective

or.. Worst Case.. Vaccum leak at the Engine.

Now.. If I am correct (and please tell me if I am wrong) the Purge/Vent Solenoid is near the Firewall somewhere under the hood.. and the EVAP Canister (Charcoal i think?) is near the tank in the back. Are these items I can get at a parts store and replace myself (Have a lift getting underneath isn't an issue)?

If anyone has experience with this.. would love some input. Please post or drop me a PM.

Thank in Advance!

I don't know for sure but I think the emissions warranty is good for a lot longer than the powertrain warranty.

Many techs will warn you about the use of non OEM gas caps.

Just start with the basic. Look for broken or missing vac lines. Find the purge selinoid (not sure where it is on your car). you should see 2 vac lines. One should go to the intake or TB and one should go to the charcol canister. make sure that they are intact.

I'm not up on Ford EVAP service as I am on GM or I could help you further.

not sure on the 2000 model, but on the older Fox models the cannister was located in the lower front passenger side of the engine compartment so I would look there first. then follow the vacuum lines connected to it to find the solenoid which will be on the line.
and the emission system parts are under a 50,000 mile warranty per Federal law so the dealer should have to fix this IMO.

it is actually 8 or 80,0000.. but they said that is only the OBD, EGR or Cats.. this part was not covered.

It was the EVAP Vapor Management Valve. I have the part.. just have to find the old one. LOL Any Ideas?
