reverse?

i have a 1990 gt and my reverse grinds when i go directly into it, i have to go into 4th then reverse in order for it to go in smoothly and sometimes its even hard to get in reverese; it feels like something isnt lined up right, once in a while 1st 2nd sometimes 3rd feels sticky to get in, do i need a new tranny soon or what

Sounds like your synchro's are worn out. How does the clutch feel?

A tranny shop can probably rebuild your tranny if that's the case

you should always go from 4th/5th to reverse with a T5 its like that for everyone it makes it much smoother. But as for the other problems were you having them before the new clutch was put in?

reverse is not syncronized.

forward gears are synchronized.

thats why you can roll backward inthe forward gearswith the clutch in with no problems.

you cant shift into reverse while rolling forward because its not synchronized.

Ericburt, there is no problem with your transmission. Reverse is not synchronized. Either use a forward gear to stop the input shaft from spinning, like already said. Or push the clutch in and wait about 3 seconds before you engage reverse.

I'm surprised 945LSTANG says you can't because some of us can. Anyone with a 93 and up and some 92's should have a brake on the reverse gear.
