Default rear end problem? Gears fix it?

hey guys... so i have a 2004 mustang gt (76k) and i have noticed throughtout the last couple of months, there is an increasing amount of backlash. When driving the car it is very noticable and it is getting to the point where something seems as thow its going to completly break. Would gears (ring and pinion) solve this problem?..also what type are recommended (gears & fluid) thanks
