RE: E85
Very expensive junk our government is trying to persuade us to use. Costs way more than gas. Corn prices and other commodities have skyrocketed thanks to our idiot government. How about they pay out of their pocket for that overpriced junk. Most local places in Illinois all have the 10% blend in the reg. to get a part of the spread.

It has other problems as well. Good for a high compression car that needs higher octane, but that only works if you have deep pockets or rarely drive it. Ethanol from corn is completely retarded though.

Brazil uses E90 which is similar to E85, but is cheaper for them to produce and they use sugar cane to do it. They started using the E90 about 30 years ago and still use it today. SInce the US has tariffs on imports from Brazil and pays subsidies to sugar producers here in the US. It would be unrealistic to use sugar as fuel. THe would price for sugar is about 20 cents a pound, but with the american subsidies it costs us about $1 a pound.
I had an indepth discussion on sugar and corn prices in my Internationl Econ class. Pretty interesting how messed up that Farm Bill is too.

Doesn't the government pay farmers to not grow certain amounts of corn and wheat so they don't flood the market and go broke? Why don' they just have them grow the corn and use it to make ethanol and have the government buy it?

RE: E85
They do that with dairy products. In Illinois the government has huge warehouses of cheese just sitting there because it gaurentees the farmers a certain price to produce it and then sells it to the public for less. Its a subsidy and thats where all our tax dollars go to. Look up the Farm bill or world market price of different products and agriculture.
