Default factory hood scoops

First post, first question.
I just custom ordered my first mustang.A 2008 mustang gt. The order included a gt appearance pkg (rolled exhaust tips, an engine cover with a Pony emblem and a hood scoop).- just a few things to make it more unique I guess...however the question I have encountered that I cannot seem to find an answer to by googling is if the hood scoop is just for looks or is it actually functional?
Don't get me wrong I am pumped either way about this car. Any help is appreciated.-Graham

Yea just for looks No hole to let outsidecool air in, no extra underhood engineclearance..

Same with the side scoops which are supposed to look like rear brake cooling ducts

Well thanks for the responses, I don't know that I will be taking a sawzaw to anything right away. In my opinion if it is not functional, maybe it should go away. Maybe I will figure out how to remove it.-graham
