My Pony Stumbles
Hello All: I need some help. I have a 70 Mach I that I have had for 26 years. Its a 351 Cleveland2V (2100), FMX auto car.Lately under even light acceleration she stumbles, sometimes to the point of dying. I have rebuilt the carb 2X with no result. During tuneup she idles fine, revs fine. Put her drive and she's OK, until you hit the gas and it almost shuts off. The distributor is stock other than a flamethrower. Everything else is totally original on the car down to the AM radio. At this point she is undriveable. Lastly, there is a tranny leak at the shifter arm that goes through the tranny housing. The tranny shop says there is no bushing for this spot and the arm has worn out that part of the casing. The shop says there is no way to fix it. Suggestions? Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Make sure the ignition is working properly and the timing is correct. Is the accelerator pump on the carb working properly? And when you rebuilt the carb, was it cleaned thoroughly? Also check your compression.

Yes the carb was cleaned for about an hour soak but I am considering all night. The accelerator pump was my thought. It revs just fine in park or neutral. Put in drive and it craps out. Timing is good although the dist. cap fits "loose". Its not tight like all the others that have been on it but its been on there long before this problem. I checked out the dist caps offered thru the parts houses and they all look the same in comparison. I even tried a 429 cap. All the same. I'll let you all know how it goes. thank you for your suggestions.
