my car has a knocking kinda sound?? 2000 gt 5 speed. it runs fine great oil pressure no metal or anything in the oil , it has a very faint knocking sound when ur inside the car an i have the shifter breeze off it sounds like it comming from under the shifter, i was able to check the throwout bearing it spins easly... im lost??

Could be a screwed up harmonic balancer, but it sounds like you have a rod knocking which would be a spun rod bearing. It happened to my dads boat and the oil looked fine and had pressure but we pulled the motor out and the bearing was worn out of the groove-like thing it sits in

yup prob rod knock .if was hermonic balancer wouldnt have a vibration to it also and i personally never heard one those knock . and also i have had plenty motors that had good oil pressure and run fine but they still knocked gotta love those bowties lol never blown a ford but guess thats why im in one now older chevy motors and me do not get along lol.

is there anyway to check if its a rod??? other than tear down the motor?

uh not that i know of really . pop ur hood and riv ur engine up and keep it at a steady idle i always rived mine to bout 3000 rpm and hold it there for sec and if hear it chattering in lowering end mide as well tear motor out . and put new bearings in it .

My Tbird had a badknock when I got it, that sometimes would quit. I put a different motor in it. When I took the oil pan off one of the rods spun the bearing both inserts were very thin and one rode under the other taking up the space on one side quieting it down sometimes. The crank was ate up pretty badly from the rod riding on it and the oil light never came on. At least pull the pan and see, it sounds like its not that far gone yet maybe you can get away with new bearings.
