Engine cleaning
what's the best way to clean off an engine? i know mine's probably dirty and i wanna polish it off a little. is Simple Green good to use?
andddd i'd prefer not to power wash it either. i've heard of some horror stories after power washing it.

yea power washing is not good, not at all, i dont suggest it at all, but simple green is perfect, also stuff liek castrol super clean, or autozone engine cleaner, all that stuff, but hwat are you looking to clean?
i just want to clean whatever looks grimey. i know that's vague but i just want to make sure nothing gets clogged with dirt and dust. i got my mustang used so i don't really know what the kid before me ever did to it or if he ever cared enough to clean it. it's a 2001 so i'm assuming there's like 7 years of dirt on it.
Just get a couple bottles of simple green or 409, spray it down and let it soak. You might want to get a tooth brush out to get the really grimy parts and break up some of the grease. Then hose it off. If you want it shiny, then bust out some good old fashioned armor all. Do this while its cold of course.
