Autometer Gages
I have a question about hooking them up, they are 2 1/6" electrical gages,
1) water temp gage- can I just tap into the existing temp sensor on the manifold, or do I need to use the one supplied with the gage? Also if I have to use the new supplied temp sensor how do I reattach the stock wires to the new sensor (there is a plug on the end, just splice it off, there are also 2 wires going to the plug vs the one that will be attached with the new gage)?
2) Trans temp gage- Where do I want to install this, on the out going flow from cooler or before the cooler? also when I screw the sensor into the "t" fitting that I am going to splice into the trans line should I use some plumbers tape to help seal it so it does no leak at the threads or is there something else I should use for this?
Thanks for any help you guys can give me on hooking these up correctly

1-you need to use the new sensor supplied with the gauge. not sure on the 2001 model if there are two temp sensors like the 5.0 has, but the temp sensor for the gauge on the 5.0 has only 1 wire hooked up to it and is screwed into a hole in the intake manifold. the ECT for the ECU is mounted in a metal pipe sending coolant to the heater core and has two wires on it.
2-I would install the trans temp sensor before the cooler to see the temp in the trans and yes you can use some tape on the threads to seal them against leaking

Thanks roundman, I will have to look around under the hood to see if I can find another temp sensor with only one wire on it. If anyone knows where or if there is another water temp sensor on a 01' GT please let me know where it is, the only one I know of right now is across from the therostat on the manifold. Thanks for any help on this.
