Default Hood Question

I'm probably going to drive you all crazy with questions on this board, but bear with me here, since I know absolutly nothing about cars and really want to learn. So my first question is, could someone please explain to me what is the deal with the different hoods on Mustangs? Like "Shaker" and "Ram Air".. what does that mean?? What do they do, and what is the difference?

A shaker hood has a hole in the middle, look at recent years mach 1. The scoop you see in a shaker hood is actually sitting on top of the engine, and the air intake is done through the scoop. It's called a shaker hood because when the scoop sits on the engine like that, it shakes when the engine shakes, making it look like the hood is shaking.

A ram air hood is simply a hood that is set up to allow air to flow to the engine through intakes in the hood, instead of somewhere in the engine compartment or fender. A ram air is different than a shaker because you don't see any part of the intake sticking up through the hood. The hood merely has a scoop or scoops connected to the air box, that at higher speeds 'ram' air into the air box.

Ya and the thing with Ram air and a shaker is that you dont really see any kind of power increase untill like 65mph and higher when the vehicle velocity is cutting along scooping in the air.

Shakers are cool cause they move from side to side when you rev

yeah yeah, and blah blah blah. You'll find most people hate on any kind of air intake through the hood because they say it doesn't increase power unless you're doing a million miles per hour into a head wind. I still stand by my claim you get cooler air into the engine than drawing from the engine bay or fender. Why would you not want that?

If you want to see some pretty cool hoods you can go to www.cervinis.com, when it comes to hoods I think they are the best. And about asking questions, please do with all confidence this is what a forum is supposed to be, a place to teach and learn.
