Default 96' sixer running bad (Lean) Need some help P0171 and P1131

Hey everyone;

Figured I would post here cause the sixer section doesnt really know.

Here is my cars info before we get started.

1996 Mustang V6 5spd
*Complete motor swap from a 2000 V6
*Connections spliced to 96' harness
*Ported heads
*Ported upper and lower intake
*Shorty headers
*BBK O/R X-pipe (Tuner deleted rear O2 sensors)
*Borla Mufflers
*SCT tuner from VMP

Here it goes.
We had some bad flooding a month ago and all the streets were at least 2" deep with water, well it got up into my fenderwell and the engine had some pass into it, it didnt kill it out though but it tried.

I then changed the MAF because I had some probs with the MAF before, so now I am running a 99' V6 MAF (Same part number)

Ever since that happened my Check engine light came on and the car is stumbling and is lacking power.

The codes are:

P0171 (System too lean)
P1131 (Lack of HO2S1 SWT Lean) *Could this be the drivers side front O2 sensor?*

I cant track down what these errors are related to but I was wondering if the HO2S1 means the drivers side frontO2 sensor.

I am no good with codes so I hope somone out there can help me.

Also when I hit the gas I notticed that I was leaving a LOT of smoke behind me, seemed kinda light but it was at night so I am not sure 100%

The engine doesnt eat oil or rad fluid so I am assuming thats fuel.

Thanks everyone

Your car is definitely running too rich. The P0171 code means the fuel system is attempting to lean itself out to correct the problem, but it has reached its adjustment limit. Was the MAF you purchased a used part? Try cleaning it with a little carb spray and let it dry.The oxygen sensor code is for the upstream(closest to the engine) sensor on the passenger side of the car. The high water may have destroyed it.

I have to argue with that. P0171 means that is is running lean. P1131 means it is not switching, or stuck lean. It should be dumping in excessive fuel then, as witnessed by the smoke. Maybe a vacuum leak or the sensor burned out. Or maybe that connector got wet.

well I have an extra set of front O2 sensors from a 97' Cobra I will put on and see if that helps at all. The ol Cobra isnt running right now so I am sure it will forgive me

As for the vacuum leak I will test that this weekend. I have been meaning to get a new TB and IAC gasket set anyways because I used the old ones when I swapped the engine.

As for my idle, it doesnt idle high, right around 750-800rpms, about 950 while driving out of gear. Which makes me think that there isnt a leak, if there was I would assume it would idle much higher.

As for the MAF it was purchased as a used part and cleaned with MAF cleaner with about 40 shots of that spray (2x the cleaning recomended.)

This weekend I am going to Seafoam it again, change the oil, change the plugs and change the fuel filter.

Oh ya, the Fuel filter has never been changed, the body has 150,000 miles on it. Do you guys think that could cause a lack of fuel getting to the engine and thus causing a lean condition? I know that if a fuel pump cant keep up with intake that happens so I assume its the same.

Any other suggestions?

i would suspect water comtamination of the o2 sensor connector on the pasenger side closest to engine. best to check all o2 sensor connectors, take apart and blow out with compressed air. you will most likely have to replace the sensor that threw the code
