Default Powder coating chrome wheels

I have a black car and was thinking of going black on black. However, I have chrome wheels and wanted to keep my wheels since they are OEM real saleen wheels. I have done alot of research and found that there are possible negatives when powder coating wheels and wanted to get others feedback on here. I have heard that is can weaken the wheel and cause it to break. Is this true?? Any input is appreciated.

Ive never heard of that happening, if anything Ive heard of it strengthening, since it forms a tough shelll. I was looking into prices for the same conversion myself, just to see how much it would cost.

i personally wouldnt powdercoat them if they are chrome OEM saleens. that is going to kill the value of them. and from what i have heard, its going to cost you around $100 per wheel to have them powdercoated, so you can probably find some knockoffs that are already black for prety cheap and keep your OEM wheels. but as far as durability goes, i havent heard anything about weakaning the wheels after powdercoating.

Thanks guys. I dont really care about killing the value of the wheels. I knowthat sounds crazy, but the chrome has road rash on it and chipping in some spots anyways. I am just looking at the most cost effective method since rechroming them would cost an arm and a leg. I am worried about adhesion since the metal is chrome. I could buy knock off wheels , but I dont want to sport faleen wheels on a real saleen.

Im pretty sure when you go to get powdercoated, then sandblast em anyway, sos to remove all the ****, including chrome plating

They only get heated to 450*, that won't weaken the wheel.

It's tough to get PC to stick to chrome, especially at sharp edges. Once the wheel gets cleaned and buffed, then it gets sandblasted. Not to remove all the chrome, but to get the PC to stick to the chrome. Like paint, it needs something to stick to.
