I have a 2008 GT. I suffered my first chip on the front end ofmy hood and I'm wondering what the pros & cons are of bras. Do they damage the paint from vibrations in the wind? Does water get under them and damage the paint? Do they reduce gas mileage? Are bugs hard to clean off, etc.

Also, any suggestion on brands?, material?, style, etc.? (Not sure if this belongs in Detail Section).

bras are ugly as ****!!

you are better off without one.

 

Get one of those invisible 3M clear film strips across the front of your car. They'll protect from stone chips but won't screw up your paint like bulky bras do.

 

yes and yes. I don't think bras are ment to put on and leave on, i think they're to protect the front end from rocks and bugs on long road trips. Leaving them on long term is a bad idea. Get the clear paint protectant if you want something on there permanent.

 

I guess I'll look into the 3M tape and skip the bra. I do like the looks of them, but my reasonfor installing one would be for protection. Thanks for the replies...

 

i would recommend those 3M strips, i had one on my car when i bought it, it discolored the paint, and now there are some small rust spots from the water trapped under it..

my car had a bra on it when i bought it and t rubbed and scratched paint. if left on for a long time the aint doesnt all fade at the same rate cause theres no sun exposer and its noticeable.

 

I tought about buying a bra for long trips, but I decided to just tape up the front end of my car instead when I go on trips.

Yea, it looks a little goofy but it works just as good as a bra and I actually enjoy applying the tape.

 

i agree. the 3m protectant you can buy off ebay. its clear, its nice looking, it isnt a bra.
the bra collects dirt underneath it and it will scratch the paint over a long time.
