New Engine, need help with valvetrain noise.
Hey guys, if you have some time, please help me identify what this noise may be... its a 3.8 with the following:
94-00 Block
Eagle 351W forged I-beam rods, ARP rod bolts
Wiseco Forged Pistons - 8.8:1 Compression Ratio (stock bore, 3.830)CompCam Billet Cam - 218/224 .55/.55 112 lobe separation
1.7 Stud Mount Rocker Arms
SSX Custom Sheetmetal Upper Intake
Ported Polished Lower - IMRC's removed
Ported 1.94/1.56 Stage 3 Heads - Compcam 918 springs @ 135 - SS Valves, 7mm stems

Yep it sounds like it rotational so it has to be waterpump or alternator related. It could be a power steering pump but I would think that would be more,,,muffled.
Go around the engine with a wooden dowel or a long screwdriver and listen to various areas.Watch the belt though.

yeah i noticed its not a valve train problem. because i noticed when you rev the motor on the video the noise doesnt progress or go away so i think these guys are right either a pully on the assembly is rubbing cause what it sound like on the video is metal to metal just for a test would i would do is while the motor is running take a can of penitrant try to find were the noise is coming from then spray a pully if i stops for about 1-3 secs theres your problem thats just judging from the video
i'd pull the plugs and see if you have any ptv issues. while you have it down, it may help to do a compression check, you may find that you have a cylinder that is lower than the rest. i missed whether is was mechincal lifters or hydraulic. if it's hydraulic, maybe you have a few that aren't pumping up. with a noise like that coming from that pile of cash under your hood, i wouldn't run it until it's fixed.
I pulled both valve covers off today and manually primed the oil pump... all 12 rods had oil squirting out from them... Does it really sound like a valve is hitting a piston? If so.. I have driven about 350 miles like that..
I thik you have 2 issues. I didn't hear the same noise in the 2nd vid.Something pulley driven is messed up but in no2, it sounds like a bad starter. There was a part right in the begining when it didn't fire that sounded like the gear kicking the flywheel.
