Default Catalytic Converters

I was talknig to a couple of mechanics that are my Dad's friends and my Dad doesn't like that my H pipe is illegal and has no catalytic converters on it so I don't know if he told the mechanics to say this but they were saying that there is no performance difference in a car with cats than a car without them. It just cuts back on noise and pollution. I went along with it just to be polite and tried to research it and came up empty. I think my Dad is doing this because I'm a teenager and I come home late on the weekends, and I live in small town suburbia and it gets real quiet at around 11:30-12:30 when I come home and you can hear my car from a mile away..Anyways, was wondering if these mechanincs were right or if they were just saying it to help out my pops.

If any info is found, if you could provide a link that would be great so I could check it out, too..if not no worries..thanks for your help

dont ever take your car back to them again, they dont know **** about cars. ask them why top fuel dragsters dont run cats see what they say.
a motor is little more then an air pump. the easiery you can get air in and then out the more power it will make. in other words, yes, having no cats does make better power.

Yes cats can rob HP. I have never seen dyno results when testing an off road h-pipe to stock ones with cats that dont show an increase in HP. You can also try hi flow cats if your dad makes you or just get quiter mufflers that still flow well. And make your dad pay for them if you do

Hahaha..the thing is..My Dad loves the way my car sounds just as much as I do..he's the one that tells me to rip through town when he's in the car with me..I think he is just thinking about the neighbor's sake..but hey, they'll get used to it..and I've known them all my whole life so I know they won't call the cops on me, they all made me keep them posted with my mods..But maybe the BBK LT headers, O/R BBK H, and SLP Loudmouth is a little extreme..oh yeah and the camshaft...

...Eff that I love the sound too much, and I know I must be getting damn good power out of it with how free flowing it is..thanks for the info with the dynos Chris
