Hi,
I have a 1998 mustang 3.8 convertible,and the ignition is now stuck in the off position and will not turn to on, or start with the key. I've tried turning the wheel back and forth with the key in but that also is locked ,and the transmission is also locked in park. Any Ideas how to free up this locked up state? Do I need to replace the switch?

Did you try to wiggle the wheel back and forth and try the ignition at the same time. Mine does that from time to time. Even though your steering wheel is locked you should still be able to move it back and forth a little bit.

 

yes,it will not unlock at all.

 

Stick your key in pull the steering wheel to one side as much as it will budge and try to start the car at the same time. I have to do this sometimes.

 

Squirt some WD-40 into the lock. The pins may have stuck..or your key may be worn. Then, wiggle the key up and down as you move it in and out to loosen them up.
