Short throw shifters?
945L, You can powershift, you've felt both shifters.
My advice is not directly aimed at you.
My opinion is for the new to the hobby members who watch the rest of us drop 1, 2, 3 hundred dollars on shifter handles, shifter ***** and shifter mechanisms. Just want them to realize no appreciable et will be gained for the dollars spent.
Spend the money for the reasons you AND I said and be prepared to gain less than a tenth for your $$$.

Hey guys start your own thread if you want to B!TCH about how to powershift and not break a shifter handle or how mant tenths you can gain by using a short throw shifter. If you read my post "I know this topic has been beat to death but I need to ask one more time. I've got my search narrowed down to two choices. Steeda Tri Ax or the MGW. Which one do you have and why did you choose it. I have noone around with a mustang so I can't try one out to see which I like. I've read where the Steeda is noisy after install, and notchy? Whatever that is. If I bought a shifter from StangMOds and got a free gasket with the purchase would this make it quieter? And is the Steeda good for just a daily driver? MGW is more expensive but is it worth the extra $$ for a better and smoother shift. I don't race at all but I do want a shorter and smoother shift. All opinions are appreciated. Thanks... Jimmy " I DON'T RACE AT ALL!!!! I'm just looking for a smoother and shorter shift... I've seen a UPR blue thunder trick stick online is that a waste of money? and do i need to at least get a tri ax or I won't notice a diifference from stock. I didn't want to start bitching but why do you need to buy a $200 shifter if 1 for $150 is better than stock which is all I'm looking for. Thanks

I could have got a V6 and saved myself some money also. Just because I don't go to the track because of my screwed up work schedule doesn't mean I have to drive a BONE STOCK CAR!!!!! I want to be able to go fast if and when I want to!!! And I got your opinion on the MGW. I just don't know if i want to jump on that bandwagon just because it's the most popular. It's kind of like EXHAUST. I didn't get flowmaster because it was the most popular I got SLP so I would have a different sound coming down the road. It's all good though. I appreciate your reply on the shifter. Jimmy

purchase a new part for you car based on functionality and how it performs, not whether everyone has it.
btw....SLP is incredibly popular on new edges. everyone seems to have them now. so you really have no argument.

to tell you the truth both the mgw and tri-ax are pretty popular. i wouldnt buy a part judged by its popularity.

Sure I do I've had my SLP for 2 years.. LOL Now you see why I'm struggling with buying a shifter? I want a shorter throw on the shift but do I really need a top of the line shifter? Is a cheaper one really a waste of money? Is a UPR trick stick better than stock or is it a waste of money? AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH Maybe I read to many reviews on others problems with their shifter and think I'll have the same problems. LOL But just like I saw on another post somewhere once you start with the bolt ons it's never enough. You'll always want to sound better go faster or whatever.

i didnt realize that picking a shifter was such a hard thing to do. its $180. its not like youre spending your entire life savings.
i still think you should check out MGW. ive had mine for a while and have no complaints.
I've had 4 different shifters in 2 different manual trans. New Edge Gt's.
On my 03GT I had the stock shifter and put in a tri-ax.
On my Saleen, I had the Pro-5.0 when I bought it and put in the MGW.
On the 03GT, the stock shifter was fine but mushy, tri-ax was a great improvement. Yes it's a bit louder, but not THAT bad.
On the Saleen, I HATED the pro-5.0. I know others like this shifter, so maybe I just got a bad one, but it's the worst shifter I have ever used.
The MGW that I have on the Saleen now is very good. It's actually a lot like the tri-ax, but quieter.
Bottom line, you won't go wrong with either the tri-ax OR the MGW, but the price isn't that much different and the MGW is somewhat quieter and looks to be more solidly built... although build quality was never an issue on the tri-ax, so that's probably not a big deal either.
If I had it to do again, I'd buy the MGW again, no question.

ive got a tri ax on my t-56. it, as well as a pro 5.0 came with the car. i asked around as well and everyone said buy an mgw. well, i wasnt looking to buy one, so threw the tri ax on. i have a shifter gasket under it, and there is a lot of noise. i know the cobra trans are noisy, but it seems like the steeda should be a bit less quiet. im deffly gonna throw the pro 5.0 on wen i get my new handle and ****. hope this helps...

I have a tri-ax on my sn95 and I absolutely love it compared to the stock shifter. I got the optional thicker gaskets from AmericanMuscle but it is still really really loud. lol. From everything everyone else has said between the tri-ax and the mgw I personally would go with the mgw. My stereo was just recently stolen out of my stang, and without the music to drown it out, the shifter noise is rather annoying to be honest soo if the mgw is just as good and quieter I'd definetly go with that one. If you did get the steeda one tho, I dont think you'd be too dissapointed, as I said, the shifts are really clean especially compared to stock. As a related question does anyone know if theres anything that can be done to quiet it a little?
