Default tri-ax = broken console

New to the forum and I installed my first mod the other day, the tri-ax shifter. I've had my '04 GT for a couple months now and it was a cheap/easy place to start. So I read up on the options and the install procedures and just as I knew I would, I broke off the little plastic tabs that keep the console tight around the shifter. It's the 2 tabs on the rear most part of the console piece, one is a part of the plastic surrounding the shifter boot and the other is a part of the center console of the car, well both of them snapped off. I read about this tab and knew to be careful but the damn console wouldn't come out, so just as I expected I gave one last tug and broke them. So my question is, am I gonna have to completely reinstall my old shifter to get them to replace the console under warranty? It ticks me off that I broke them and now have a loose piece on my new car. Do you think I could get away with just bolting the old shifter shaft back on and they won't notice I changed it out and thus broke the piece myself? I was also wondering if it is necessary to use the rubber isolator that bolts between the new shifter shaft and the base? Thanks for any input

Your going to have trouble getting for to replace the console under warrenty. They are going to know you tampered with it and will try using that as reason not to replace it under warrenty. Also I would install all the parts that came with your new shifter.
