It probably helps keep the engine at a better running temp. Running you engine at a non-optimal temp will shorten it's service life. Just speculation, using my thermo knowledge.

ok heat barrier blanket.......but it mostly just retains heat....it just depends on how you look at it......

Actually, the underhood blanket is to take up and wrap around your shoulders when it's cold...there's a pocket on the left quarter panel that has marshmellows. The hot chocolate is in the right quarter panel...This is great when your driving in winter. Especially in convertibles. Seriously, this thread is dead. Let's move on, shall we?
