ive been thinking of getting rid of the heat shield under the hood to reduce the heat under there. as it is i already have two big sections cut out so that the manifold has more clearence. ive heard thought that removing it will cause the paint to fade or chip...is that true? what do you guys think?
Its a fire blanket. The plastic push in clips that hold it to the underside of the hood are designed to melt at a certain temp and drop that on the engine to smother a fire. I used to sell ford/lincoln/mercury and thats what they are for.
I am not sure if they do anything for the sound, but I say the more I can hear of my 4.6L the better. especially the intake!!
no it isnt... its to keep the engine warm. if it were a fire thingy, how come mine burned so easy when i ripped it off and threw it in a fire. it was gone in a few seconds.
