start and die
1978 351M test motor used to test carbs on.
problem motor starts then dies as soon as the starter button is released I know the motor runs good it has just been rebuilt and has about 10 hrs on it and know the carb that is on it is good too.its like you turn off the switch as soon as it starts. BTW battery voltage is 12.7
new rebuilt starter and soelonid

RE: start and die
could the distributor have been turned? also i just fixed a friends motor that was acting the same way and he had a large vacuum leak. If the motor was running fine before and will start then die i would start with the basics make sure you have spark, the timing is ok, and good fuel pressure

RE: start and die
check to make sure you have bat voltage at the dist. with key on not cranking. if not, your balast resistor in the harness is open circuit. it will fire while cranking due to the resistor bypass wire on the starter, but when you let off the button if the resistor is open you lose voltage to the dist.
