Stop! Hammertime.
If your Radar Detector has a Cigarette Lighter plug DO-NOT-PROCEDE. The Plug Adapter holds all the electricity monitoring equipment...If you cut that off you'll fry your radar detector.

But if your good to Remote line for your CD player would be easiest.

Find a test light and pull the stereo out and remove the harness at the back. Poke around in the connector with the ignition on. When you find a hot, turn the ign off to verify switched vs. constant. Find the wire down the loom and splice. The stereo has a remote amp and pulls little amperage. My detector has been hooked up for seven years in the above mentioned wayand I have had no problems.

Go directly to your fuse block. You can pick up the 12 Volts at every fuse. There are usually extra spots in the block to add circuits, that way you can fuse your detector seperately. Don't go poking around the ignition switch, and tap into another circuit. That circuit may well, not be designed to draw enough amperage to run what it is in there for and your new device.
Good luck/ Bill
