Check Fuel Cap

Check Fuel Cap
2002 GT
Failed inspection with a P0455 code. Reset the battery and the Service Engine Soon light went away. Now the Check Fuel Cap light is on, and I can see that the metal flap on the white plastic part of the fuel entry hole is bent down, so there is no seal.
Two questions:
1) Can I try to reset the battery (which I will go do right now) to turn this code off, strictly to pass inspection (which I have to do by the end of this week before I drive back to school)?
2) What is the actual repair that will need to be done? Just that white plastic insert with the metal flap? How much would that run?
Thanks in advance. I'm pressured to get this done ASAP.

Not really sure which "flap" you are referring to, but if it is the one the size of a quarter that is in the fuel fill hole, that should not effect the seal at all.
You possibly only need a new fuel cap from the auto parts store.
But to be honest, I cannot tell what you are describing in your post, so I may be way off base on what the problem is.
