Ok first of all the TSB mentioned is not for your car. It's for the 99 or 00 to 2003 models. It is definitely your second gear syncho and a rebuild is needed. This is true especially if it shifts fine at low speeds. The higher the rpm you try to shift at the more the synchro has to work. It will get progressively worse whereas you won't be able to shift even at low speeds. Few choices; you can buy a kit for $250 or remove your trans yourself and take it somewhere and you will probably pay around $400 give or take. If you have the whole job done including removal and install it'll run you anywhere from $1200 to $2000 depending or where you go.

Do a search on this, it is a HIGHLY talked about subject. There is a Ford TSB out there for it.

Well-started typing before I saw that you has a '96........I'm talking about the newer transmissions......sorry......
where do i find the info on the TSB? i want to have mine redone before i get my blowr on, cause i know they won't touch it when i put that on. my dealership are arseholes about any type of warranty work. so i need to go in there with the TSB info in writing before they'd even consider doing it.

There was a lot about a month ago on the 4.6 forum regarding the tsb. I tried to do a search to find it but the search didn't seem to work. I think it was 99 to 2003 or maybe 2000 to 2003 model years. The tsb is for replacing the synchros.

Try it here, i thought there was a different one, but maybe not......

I've also seen a website where you can get the official info, let me try and find that also......

ive got it where my car will grind going into second gear with my foot all the way down to the ground on the clutch. my friends all laughed at me when i grinded trying to get into 2nd this one time. it happens about every few weeks on me. with my mods, the ford dealer shouldnt make me not be able to get the work done, can they not accept me cause i got a new shifter?
