Default lift off hoods

first off i am sorry if this is in the wrong section but i did not really see anything that this would fall under

i have been looking around and i see a big price difference between lift off hoods and bolt on hoods. has anyone used both and can give some pros and cons to the lift off hood other than a cheaper price? is it a pain in the rear to mount all the pins and whatever brackets you need to hold the hood down on the road? is it worth the extra money to get a bolt on? it would be kind of nice working on the engine without a hood over your head but it prob also would be a pain in the *** to take the hood off just to check the oil or something.

Aren't you going to always need at least TWO people around every time you wanna open the hood? Sounds like a pain in the (_|_) to me

from what i have seen the fiberglass hoods are super light like 15 or so lbs. so i guess if you could get a grip it would not be a problem for one person to lift it. that is kind of what i want to know about is it more trouble than it's worth for the money u save?

i was looking and the money i save getting a lift off i could almost pay for a front bumper and really give the car a whole new look. or put the money i saved towards getting it painted to match the car.

lift offs aren't too bad as long as you have a scoop that you can get a grip on bolt ons are nice though i've got a bolt on with 6 in. cowl but if i hadn't traded my stock hood for it i would have got the lift off

Even if you COULD lift off the hood yourself,, where are you gonna put it while working under the hood? Even worse if your at a gas station. You shouldn't stand it on it's edge anywhere, that could scuff the paint.

And yea, not passing safety FTL

THe safety issue is a state to state thing guys, remember not all states even have a safety inspection. I have owned cars with lift offs before and as long as the hood is light it is no problem to get off by yourself. What you do is put some foam on the bottom of the hood so you can put it on the roof of the car, it won't scratch the paint as long as the foam is in the right place. Working on the car is much nicer with the hood off.
