to "unmarry" it you simply load the factory tune back into the car the custom tune was loaded into in the first place. The term is actually Locked, not married. What happens is when you load the tune from the tuner to the car, while it's backing up the factory tune from teh car the tuner is locked into that VIN number so NO ONE else can use it. You can in most cases get the tuner unlocked by sending back to the manufacturer but this is not a guarantee. Otherwise you could steal a tuner and simply have it unlocked for use again.

Your friend either stole it, found it, or doesn't want to put the factory tune back on the car.

The best way to use a tuner is at a shop with your car on a dyno. Go to a place like that & they'll tell you how to get the tuner "divorced" from it's current car

Which brand tuner is it? Is your friend willing to lose his current tune & put his car back to stock?

YOU need to find out how to divorce the tuner from his car, DO IT, and only then is the tuner worth anything to you. Spending even $1 on a locked tuner is a waste of $1
