headlight problem?
I have a 87 gt and i put new headlights on my car becuase of the headlight catching on fire. Now the lights dont seem bright at all, i can see only like 5 feet if that infront of me. Anyone have any solutions to this problem?

The headlights might need to be re-aimed.You didn't mention if you did thator not.
Most likely the wiring needs to be cleaned at the terminals (maybe ALL of them) due to dirt or water corrosion from the fire.Look for loose grounds and poor connections. The connections could even test good with a volt or ohm meter but when the high current draw hits the corrosion, the slightly higher resistance causes the light output to drop a lot.
Remember,it don't take much.

yea i put both new sockets on both of the headlights so its all new wiring and yea i thought about aiming them if it would make a difference but i had to get it to pass inspection so i hard wired it by doing a inline fuse from the red/yellow wire at the switch to the green and red wire on the headlights. but my high beams don't work now? and there is what it looks like a relay over on the passenger side of the engine bay bolting right near the shock tower and one of the wires is kinda melted so i was wondering if that had anything to do with the headlights because i lose the wire in the main harness. any idea what that relay is to?
