Default Differances between Cold air intakes.

Ok,

I'm a total newbie to anything to do with cars besides the basics.

And I've always went with the "you get what you pay for" view of things...
But before I go and put out 200$ for a cold air intake, I want to know if it's really worth it to go with one of these

or

over something cheaper like :

Is there really that huge of a difference?

Also,

As an added question, does something like this:

really work?

Thanks...

Any additional reading helping to explain things would be appreciated.

I cannot say about the chip, but I would imagine they would have some benefit, like the Diablo tuner, only with less adjustability on the fly. The major difference on the CAI is the spot of induction. Some take the 'cold' air out of the fenderwell (which I would recommend) and some draw the 'definitely-not-cold' air out of the engine bay. Some are made of aluminum, which looks better, but the aluminum gets super hot under the hood and in turn warms the air going through it. I would recommend a CAI that is made of carbon fiber or plastic and draws from the fenderwell. Just my 2c though

Save your money for other mods. Stick a high quality (like K&N) air filter into your STOCK setup, remove the funnel shaped silencer from the airbox and, that's just about as good as any CAI.

The "best CAI" on the planet might get you 1 or 2 more horsepower than that. Is 1-2 hp worth +$200?
